About Halfpenny Law
Our Legal Authority
John P. Halfpenny brings decades of litigation and courtroom experience to individuals and families facing serious legal matters throughout Central Pennsylvania.
John Halfpenny is a Philadelphia native who later lived in San Francisco, where he practiced commercial litigation and intellectual property law, before relocating to York County, Pennsylvania.
John graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 with degrees in Psychology and Economics, along with a minor in English. He received his Juris Doctor in 1991 from Santa Clara University School of Law in California’s Silicon Valley. While attending law school, he served as an Articles Editor on the Law Review, wrote for The Advocate, and taught Evidence and Constitutional Law through the Academic Support Program.
John began his legal career with an international American Lawyer Magazine Top-100 firm in San Francisco, where his practice focused on complex civil litigation, antitrust matters, and misappropriation-of-trade-secret cases.
He was also part of the trial team representing a California state prisoner in Felix v. McCarthy, a civil-rights action against the California Department of Corrections. Following a week-long jury trial, Mr. Felix prevailed and received a six-figure award of damages, costs, and attorneys’ fees.
John later practiced in Philadelphia as Special Counsel and as a partner in several leading Pennsylvania law firms. His work included complex patent and trademark litigation in federal and state courts throughout the country.
He successfully defended Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, in multiple medical-malpractice trials and served as national antitrust counsel to Breitling U.S.A., the American subsidiary of the Swiss luxury-watch manufacturer Breitling SA.
The Client Comes First
Experienced advocacy, practical guidance, and personal attention.
John now concentrates his practice on criminal defense, custody, traffic, DUI, PFA, disciplinary, and adoption matters. His focus is on preparing each case carefully, communicating directly, and pursuing the strongest lawful result available at every stage of the proceeding.
